Over 50 Cooper Union students and faculty at have been occupying the president’s office since Wednesday morning “to keep it free.” Recently, Cooper Union President Jamshed Bharucha and the Board of Trustees voted to begin charging tuition at the school, which had been free since the school’s founding. The occupying students have been threatened with dismissal and denial of their degrees, yet they have vowed to stay to stay — even though none of them will personally be affected by the tuition increase (a nice example of value rationality over instrumental rationality).
