(Blog 4) Stereotyping

Stereotypes are so integrated into our society we tend to forget how the everlasting stigma comes with consequential hurt it inflicts on individuals. Stereotyping someone or an entire culture/race can be damaging, especially stereotyping an entire race. For instance some races are stereotyped as being lazy and unambitious whereas as another race is stereotyped as the complete opposite. This can hurt people looking to move forward for example two people are up for an interview, two different races with different stereotypes, more likely than not those stereotypes will play a part in the employers decision.

When I saw the picture attached for the first time I couldn’t hold back a chuckle. They say one picture is worth a thousand words, I think this picture says more than a thousand words. Not only is it humorous but it also shows reasons why stereotypes should not exist, simply because stereotypes can be misleading

  1. I found this meme to be pretty funny as well. I completely agree with your last point. Stereotypes assume for certain things that may be absolutely wrong and very far from what is the case. I think it is in our nature to categorize everything around us, so I do not really see an end to stereotypes.

  2. I think that you are right when you say that stereotypes shouldn’t exist. Stereotypes tend to cause us to think negatively about people who are different from us. This shouldn’t be the case. We should be able to see people for who they truly are and stereotypes shouldnot be able to get in the way of that.

  3. This is a great picture. I agree, stereotypes shouldn’t exist. They are misleading and can make you miss out on getting to know great people.

  4. I remember seeing the actual video of this posted online when it first happened. so many people were up in arms about snoop and his image and what he represents. yet they failed to recognize the true criminal in the photo.
