Durkheim felt that religion played a pivotal role in society. This is because by understanding the traditional forms of religion one is able to understand modern society. In religion there are a certain set of practices and beliefs that one most follow. Additionally, all religions have a place of worship that bring them together. Religion always have certain practices and beliefs that one follows and a symbol that stands for something else. Thus, making these things sacred. The guidelines that religion follows can also be evoked in modern scared groups. For instance, this can be applied to football because the people who watch it gather to someone’s house which in this case is there “church”, theyfollowcertain rituals such as chanting for their team, eating snacks and talking about the game; and have symbols which are the logo of the team. Overall, by understand the guidelines of religion one is able to understand what makes something sacred.
